Solanco led 36-14 at the half and held the Comets to two points in the third quarter, coasting to a 29 point winning margin. The Mules posted a 63-60 overtime victory over visiting Garden Spot Thursday. "It was quite a game," Solanco coach Scott Long said. "They had beaten us by two in overtime in the first meeting. I think the teams are evenly matched. They have good guard play and nice size. It's very comparable. I think we're a little better defensively." It was a somewhat frustrating week for the Solanco boys basketball team.
The Mules suffered two losses including a gut-wrenching defeat to Conestoga Valley last Thursday night. "It was an unfortunate situation," coach Scott Long said. "We were up all game and they made a run at the end." The Mules' Aaron Constein hit a three-pointer to put his team up by a point with 50 seconds remaining. It was an impressive week for the Solanco boys basketball team.
The Mules won two of three crossover games including a 67-64 victory over visiting McCaskey Friday night. Solanco's boys basketball team opened the season by splitting two games at the Northeastern Tip-Off Tournament.
The Mules downed Northern York 50-40 in the consolation game Saturday. Solanco got out to an 8-0 lead and led the rest of the way. "We felt like we could beat them by putting pressure on the ball," coach Scott Long said. "We did a good job of pressuring them and created turnovers which led to some easy baskets." Solanco's new boys basketball coach is a familiar face around the Southern End.
Scott Long is in his first year as an assistant principal at Solanco High after working as a physical education teacher at Smith Middle School for three years. Long, who spent the past five seasons coaching Penn Manor's girls basketball team, replaced longtime Mules coach Bill Moore. |
